REFLECTIONS OF LIFE OF MS. JENNIE RUTH BURKS THOMPSON
Jennie Ruth Burks was born on September 28, 1941 in Lena Mississippi, to Mr. John H. Burks, Sr. and Mrs. Ardell Chambers Burks. She was the third of ten children born to that union. She was proceeded in death by her Parents, one sister Annie Mae Burks, three brothers: Jonas Toy Burks, John H. Burks Jr., and Purvis Burks. After moving to Ellisville Mississippi, she attended Benson High School and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Ellisville, MS.
She was a faithful member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church until moving to Wichita, KS.
Jennie married Moses Thompson in Ellisville Mississippi and to that union five children were born. After moving to Wichita KS, she worked for Wesley Medical Center until an early retirement. Jennie then became a homemaker and made her home a home full of love. She welcomed everyone into her home and many family members and friends often lived with her, which showed the beauty of her open heart. If you were friends to the family, you were family in her eyes. Jennie loved everyone she got to know and always kept a positive attitude no matter what happened. Jennie always encouraged everyone to do and be the best they could be.
Jennie enjoyed playing bingo and doing word search puzzles, but her biggest joy was being with family and friends and her smile and laughter could brighten up any day. Jennie never complained about anything because in her heart she always knew the Lord would work every and anything out for the best. She would sometimes tell her children “Don’t be acting like that, you don’t want to go to hell cause they are going to hell.” Jennie leaves us with love and cherished memories and she was the most beautiful, caring, loving Mama in the world and we will continue to honor her memories by sharing that love with everyone. So, when we greet you with a smile and a hug just know it comes from our Mama Ms. Jennie Ruth Burks Thompson.
