Hattie Mae Johnson after 84 seasons with us, answered God’s call and eased into eternal rest on June 10, 2020.
In the early fall of September on the 20th day in 1935, a beautiful baby girl was born. Hattie Mae Zeigler was the second child and first daughter born unto Alma C. Zeigler (Napoleon) and Julius Zeigler in Boley Oklahoma.
Hattie spoke fondly of living in the country with her family and attending Arcadia Junior High. On one hot summer day she decided to go down to the creek to swim, this is where she met George Johnson. George fell head over heels for the copper toned beauty, asked her to move to Kansas with him and be his wife. Before accepting his proposal, Hattie asked George to promise to bring her back to visit her mother on the weekends. He agreed and they were married at a tender age. They remained married for 20 plus years and unto their union 7 children were born, 4 girls and 3 boys. She also helped raise one of her nephews, her oldest granddaughter and second eldest grandson.
Everyone knew her as a soft spoken, no nonsense woman who wore many hats. She was the neighborhood midwife and delivered many children. Taught herself how to sew without a pattern and enjoyed making her children's clothing and piercing little girls ears. She loved going to care homes to help with the elderly. This included many house calls performing home health aide duties before it was a title. Cooking many delicious meals for her family made her smile; she was a true humanitarian in her own right. Hattie was an employee of Boeing Aircraft Company until she retired, and was a faithful member of Mt Zion Baptist church.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Her children Betty Coburn (Ernest) Gerry Johnson (Corellia) Eddie Johnson ( Debra) Drebra Johnson all of Wichita,Ks. Sheila Anderson (Larry) of Dallas,Tx Tracy Biglow ( Michael) of Wichita, Ks.
Her sisters: Mattie Smiley, Christine Patton both of Oklahoma city,Ok Ernestine Peallard of Edmond,Ok
