Patricia Ann Follis " Pat"

January 23, 1933 ~ June 16, 2020 (age 87)

Obituary

Patricia [Pat] Ann (Jennings) Follis died Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Wheat State Manor, in Whitewater, Kansas, at age 86. She was a follower of Jesus and has been welcomed into her heavenly home.

Pat was outgoing, with a warm personality, a quick smile, and an easy laugh. She worked hard, cared for her 5 children and her husband Darrel, and took life as it came. She enjoyed being with others as she cooked, worked around the house, cared for her children, participated in church work and helped with everyone’s activities.

From the time her children were in elementary school, there was a piano in the house. Pat enjoyed listening to her two daughters play the piano and sing. Her three boys liked sports, and she enjoyed watching them participate. Baking was fun and relaxing for her, and Pat delighted her children and grandchildren with her apple and coconut cream pies and homemade cinnamon rolls.

Pat was born in Yates Center, Kansas, November 23, 1933. Her parents were Earl and Jaunita Jennings. The family farmed north of Hoxie, Kansas. As a youngster, Pat attended the McGraw Church near the farm where she was reared.

In 1951, Pat graduated from Hoxie High School and then worked for a year in a bank in Colby, Kansas. On October 20, 1952, just months after he returned from the Korean War, Pat married Darrel A. Follis in the Hoxie Christian Church. To their union were added 5 children (Darylee, Don, Bob, Patta Jane and David), all born at the Sheridan County Hospital in Hoxie.

The family lived in Hoxie until January of 1965, when Darrel’s company, Midwest Energy, Inc, transferred him to Oakley, Kansas, then to Ainsworth, Nebraska, and finally in 1968 to Colby, Kansas.

In Hoxie, Pat ran her own flower shop. Throughout her life she enjoyed growing and arranging flowers. After moving to Colby, Darrel and Pat finished raising their family. They lived in Colby for more than 41 years. Pat always included her own mom, Jaunita Jennings, in the family life. Jaunita lived in Colby with Pat and her family from 1968 until her death in 1991.

In Colby, Pat worked at Farmers and Merchants Bank in the 1970s and 1980s and then provided childcare in the 1990s. Following Darrel’s death in 2009, Pat stayed in Colby until 2011, when she moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she lived with her daughter Darylee (Mike) Flynn, until July 2019 when she moved into the Wheat State Manor in White Water, Kansas.

Throughout their marriage, Pat and Darrel were involved in Christian work. They served together, participating at churches in Colby and Oakley.

While Pat enjoyed hosting family and friends, her favorite job was taking care of her husband of nearly 57 years. She and Darrel often took evening and weekend rides, meandering through the countryside, and enjoying each other’s company. Their rides usually included stopping somewhere for ice cream.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband Darrel, her parents Earl and Jaunita Jennings, her half-sister Carol Kundmueller, and her grandson, Ian Follis.

Surviving Pat are her children: Darylee (Mike) Flynn, Wichita, KS; Don (Jennifer) Follis, Urbana, IL; Bob (Carlin) Follis, Galva, IL; Patta Jane (Ryan) Miller, Wichita, KS, and David Follis, Colorado Springs, CO. Her grandchildren are Katie Flynn, John Flynn, Maddie (Drew) Hall, Keaton (Ashley) Miller, Blayze Miller, McCory Miller, Tanner (Sarah) Follis and Trent Follis. Pat was blessed with 10 great grandchildren.

Pat choose cremation. Burial will take place at a later date in the Hoxie Cemetery, Hoxie, KS. Memorial donations are suggested to Wheat State Manor, 601 S. Main St, Whitewater, KS 67154.
