Stanford Mike Redmond was born October 14th, 1967, the only child to Clara Redmond (Baker) in Wichita, Kansas. As a young boy you could often find him hanging out with his Uncle Jimmie and Aunt Ila. Mike was educated in the Wichita Public School system and attended Caldwell Elementary, Brooks Middle School, and Heights High School. Mike has been employed with the Wichita Public School District for over 30 years. At age 18, he began as a janitor at East High School and then became a security officer at Wichita South, where he currently served as the security supervisor.
Mike married the love of his life Tonya (McFarthing) in 1996 to this union they blended and added Casey, Taryn, Mario, and Mikah. He was proud of his four kids: Casey, a forward-thinking leader, Taryn, talented and adventurous, Mario, a soldier in the U.S. Army, and Mikah a young artist. He was a proud grandfather of Lennox and Ari Rose, the newest addition.
Family has always been important to Mike. As an only child, he embraced his cousins and close friends as if they were siblings. He was protective of those he loved and cared about. He loved to tell stories -although a little long winded. Mike enjoyed life. He loved music (KISS & Prince), steak and tacos. He was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan. He was so proud of his Harley and loved to collect Harley Davidson items.
Mike was an active member of Hiding Place Church. When time allowed you could find him helping Pastor Wheeler as the church embarked on a new journey with a new building. He would get excited when talking about his church’s continued growth and was dedicated to this journey.
Mike is preceded in death by his grandparents: Andrew & Alpha Redmond and mother: Clara Redmond. Mike leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Tonya, daughter Casey (Keith) of Wichita, KS, daughter Taryn of Atlanta, GA, son Mario and daughter Mikah, both of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Lennox and Ari Rose. His Uncle Jimmie (Ila) of Wichita, KS, Aunt Omega of Washington, D.C. and Stepfather Lewis Jones of Maryland, and a host of cousins, friends, co-workers, and Kong (his dog), all who will miss him dearly and forever.
